About Zingg!
If you have older files generated in previous versions of the Mac OS, or files downloaded from the Internet, you ll often find that double-clicking on a file doesn t open the right application for your needs. Zingg comes to the rescue. Zingg is a simple Finder Contextual Menu. It shows you all applications that claim to open a particular file.
To use, just install it, control-click (or right-click if you have 2 mouse buttons) on any file in the Finder. The submenu contains all recognized applications that can open that particular file s extension or type. Just select any application from the list, and that file will be opened by it.
If you have apparently duplicated entries, or wish to know the absolute path for each application, activate "Caps Lock" before opening the menu, and full pathnames will appear.
If you select several items, the list will show all applications that can open any of the selected items.
The list is configurable. You can have Classic applications appear only if Classic is already running, and you can select certain applications to never or always appear in the list. You can also restrict the list to applications installed in standard locations, show only certain applications, show application icons, etc.
In contrast to Jaguar s "Open with..." menu, Zingg! also works for more than one item at a time, and for folders.
Whats New in this Version
- Version 1.4.1 fixes a crashing bug which happened under unusual circumstances - unusual in my testing, that is.
- There s a new setting to toggle the menu between names and paths with the "option" key. Pressing "Caps Lock" before pulling down the menu still works as before.
- Application names can now start with - or any other menu metacharacter without messing up the menu. Useful!
- Many more enhancements. Follow the link and
