Everything in this world is made up of smaller building blocks. In Toolbox these building blocks are small graphics tools, such as: crop, text, blur, mix and join. In total there are 68 tools. These many tools can be combined in many ways, making Toolbox able to solve a wide range of tasks.
Graphics programs similar to Photoshop usually have a layer editor too, but its in a limited form. Its ackward to insert, copy and combine layers. Working with layers can be painful. Toolbox is build up around layers, its the primary way of interacting with the program. Fewer limits, less ackward, less pain. Toolbox has better layers.
Toolbox is a highly interactive program in that sense, that one almost immediately can see the consequences of an action and quickly adjust to it. This makes it possible to try out more combinations, than with a less interactive program. It allows you to take chances that you wouldn't usually take, because the cost of making mistakes are low.
The included examples demonstrates how to make: webbuttons, logos and textures. These can be opened via the "Examples" menu. Nearly no documentation exists, so the only way to get started, are by experimenting with these examples. Try replace the logo text with your own name and see if you can mess up the colors.
Toolbox is still a young program. In its current form its best at doing experimental digital art, but hopefully over time Toolbox will become a general purpose tool. Its not aimed towards making professional graphics, but more to provide a good sandbox to work in, where responsiveness matters more than quality. Only 8bit colors and small images are supported.
This is an alpha release and it crashes for yet unknown reasons. Please remember to save your projects frequently. Things gets changed by us (since its an alpha release), and compatibility will break. Only use Toolbox for non-serious things where there is little to loose. Follow the link and
