Under Mac OS X Jaguar you can now install Sound Fonts .sf2 files which can greatly enhance the sound of the built-in QuickTime Musical Instruments and any other MIDI applications like Intuem, SimpleSynth etc.
These files go into (~)/Libary/Audio/Sounds/Banks
Any sound bank installed in those locations can be selected from System Preferences -> QuickTime -> Music to be used as the default synthesizer for QT Musical Instruments.
Mac OS X allows the installation of uncompressed Sound Fonts (.sf2) only so compressed files (.sfArk) need to be decompressed before installation.
