Whether you're deploying five, five thousand, or 32,000 systems, NetRestore is the software deployment solution for you. Built on Apple's Apple Software Restore technology, NetRestore can be used to quickly and accurately restore a master disk image to a computer's hard disk while that disk image is hosted locally, on a network via AFP, NFS or multicast, or on the internet via HTTP. NetRestore can also be used in conjunction with NetBoot to fully automate the deployment of a lab full of machines. NetRestore was designed to be very easy to use, yet flexible, powerful, and extensible. NetRestore supports both Mac OS X and Windows XP deployment.
What's new in this version:
NetRestore
- Resolved an issue in which NetRestore would fail to pre-partition a target disk if the existing volume had a space in its name or had already been partitioned.
- Updated the byhost_fix utility to offer renaming ByHost files based on system UUID.
- Added some error trapping during NTFS post-restore actions to handle a (harmless) failed attempt to update the boot.ini file.
- Reinforced NetRestore's requirement that full automation be enabled for dual-boot deployment
- Updated the by_host_fix tool to provide support for renaming ByHost preferences based on System UUID. This behavior is not the default, it can be enabled with the byhost_fix.sh post-action script.
- Resolved an issue in which the "Set target as boot disk" option would cause an error during a dual-boot deployment.
NetRestore Helper
- The NetInstall-Restore set now draws the Desktop while booted to NetRestore. This Desktop picutre can be customized by placing your own image at /System/Library/CoreServices/DefaultDesktop.jpg on the NetInstall-Restore disk image.
