FractalWorks is a high performance fractal rendering application for Macintoshes. It is multithreaded, and produces beautiful images. The program includes a variety of pre-defined “color schemes” which you can use to color your plots, as well as a color editor that lets you create your own color schemes or modify existing ones. Fractalworks also includes a wide variety of sample plots to get your creative juices flowing.

WHAT'S NEW

Version 0.5.8 :

- Added several new color schemes and deleted some old, little-used color schemes.
- Fixed bug that caused crashes sometimes when selecting a rectangular area to plot (using command click) and dragging off the upper right corner of a plot window.
- Changed file load/save so that it remembers the current document directory correctly. This fixes a bug where loading or saving a color scheme would cause the next file load/save to point into the color schemes directory.
- Changed file menu's "Save color scheme" item so it works from a 3D view as well as from a 2D view of a fractal.
- Fixed bug that prevented 3D view window from closing sometimes when you closed a fractal plot document. When this happened, FractalWorks would crash the next time the 3D window tried to re-draw itself.
- Added 3D plot info to the get info dialog.
- Fixed bug that prevented Julia set plots from inheriting the setting of the "calculate distance estimates" when you control-click on a Mandelbrot set plot.
- Changed code so single-click plot that creates a new window inherits the "calculate fractional iteration values" setting from source plot window.
- Fixed bug that caused a crash if you closed a fractal plot when it's 3D view is being rendered.
- Added support for right-clicking on a fractal plot to zoom out, instead of using the option key.
- Fixed a bug that could cause intermittent crashes when plotting a 2D fractal
- Fixed a bug that caused crashes in the colorscheme editor when you set a color band's gradient curve to "linear" and then move the anchor point so that color band overlaps with another color band.
- Added support for copying/pasting all the settings for a 3D view, so you can move all your 3D settings from one plot to another. You have to click on the 3D view to make it the target for keystrokes before this works.
- Changed "flip plot" checkbox on 3D view window so it re-draws the plot correctly even if the 3D view was in the middle of being rendered when you clicked the checkbox.
- Fixed the "update plot" button on 3D views so it actually updates the plot in all cases.
- Fixed a bug where the background color wasn't being drawn correctly when you load a fractal plot from disk that includes a 3D view.
- Changed the code that creates a new fractal plot from an existing plot so that if it creates the plot in a new window, and the existing plot has a 3D view, it remembers the settings for the 3D view. Follow the link and free download FractalWorks now.
