EnScrypt is a suite of Applescripts providing high quality and easy-to-use encryption Each package in the suite is designed to be fully compatible with every other package, meaning that the user can create encrypted text in one application and decrypt it in another. The applications EnScrypt works with include Eudora, Entourage, Apple's Mail. Tex-Edit Plus, BBEdit, Microsoft Word, and others. Note however that some incompatibility exists between early versions of Enscrypt. Make sure to get the latest version. If you need encryption capability in another application, and that application can be made to respond to Applescript, then I hope you will ask me to add it to the suite. The typical use for EnScrypt would be secure communications. Because it uses a state-of-the-art encryption algorithm (Blowfish) with a 128 bit key, you would probably call it "strong encryption", although the use of short and overly simple passwords would surely compromise the security. The EnScrypt package includes two scripts; one for encrypting and one for decrypting. The encrypted text replaces the original text in your document, and it is converted to hex format so that it can be transported easily. For verification of authorship and integrity, EnScrypt also includes a digital signature using the "SHA1" algorithm. EnScrypt has been tested and works well on documents of up to about 10 pages.
