EnScrypt is a suite of Applescripts providing high quality and easy-to-use encryption and digital signatures for many of the applications Mac enthusiasts use for text processing and communication. Different modules in the suite work with various applications including Eudora, Entourage, Mail (Apple), Tex-Edit Plus, Microsoft Word. More are on the way. Each module is designed to be fully compatible with every other module, meaning that users can create encrypted text with one application, send the message to a correspondent, who can then decrypt it with a different application.

The typical use for EnScrypt would be secure communications. Because it uses a state-of-the-art encryption algorithm (Blowfish) with a 128 bit key, you would probably call it "strong encryption", although the use of shorter or overly simple passwords would surely compromise the security. EnScrypt also includes "SHA1" for digital signatures.

Basic Description
The user selects a plain text message in one of the supported programs. Then he runs EnScrypt. The encrypted version of the text either replaces the original or is placed in a new document. It is encoded it so that it can be transported easily, and it is signed so that a recipient with the right password can confirm the integrity of the text and the identity of the sender.

What's new in this version:

- Version 1.21 Slight speed improvement. Big improvement in formatting of decrypted text
- Version 1.2 changed the EnScrypt package from two scripts to a single combined script. It also implemented major improvements in speed and capacity. The maximum size document EnScrypt could process in earlier versions was about 10 pages. Version 1.2 has been tested on documents as large as 100 pages. As for speed, EnScrypt will encrypt (and sign) a 10 page single-spaced document in under 5 seconds, or a 50 page document in about 45 seconds. Decryption (and validation) on the 10 page original document takes about 10 seconds, or a 50 page document takes 90 seconds. Tests are on a 1.5 ghz G4 Powerbook with 1 gig of RAM and OS X Tiger).
