IPARef is a built for MacOS X utility which provides a complete electronic reference to the charts and symbols of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). IPARef displays all the charts of the IPA including: Consonants (Pulmonic), Consonants (Non-Pulmonic), Vowels, Other Symbols, Supra-Segmentals, and Diacritics. Any of these charts may be selected by clicking on its respective tab. Information for the IPA symbols found on the charts can be accessed immediately by clicking on the symbol itself. The detailed information includes: a large glyph of the symbol; the name of the symbol; the IPA number associated with the symbol; the unicode number for the symbol; the technical description of the symbol; a natural language example of the sound represented by this symbol, followed by the name of the language and a translation; and finally, a key map to this symbol on the IPAKeys keyboard.
